The fuel cell stacks produced by Infinity pack a lot of power into small volumes. There are approximately ten cells per inch in these power dense platforms, yielding volumetric capacities much higher than battery systems alone.

PEM fuel cells are among the coolest running fuel cell technologies with a typical operation temperature of 70C to 80C (158F to 176F).

Individual cell and catalyst designs are based on proven approaches for long life in pure hydrogen and oxygen environments.

Infinity’s individual cell hardware is made from stainless steel or titanium sheet. The fully bonded products are very thin and lightweight versus a more traditional fuel cell material like graphite.

Since water in the fuel cell is managed statically, there is less rotating equipment normally required to move water in traditional fuel cell system. Infinity’s integrated humidification and degasification reduce reliance upon other equipment, further reducing the noise associated with other power producing technologies.

Static water management means fewer moving parts in the entire system. Fewer components, especially rotating equipment, translates to decreased downtime, increasing Mean Time Between Overhaul (MTBO) and overall system reliability.

The all metal bonded structures utilized in the Infinity design have the ability to withstand the shock and vibration of space launch as well as percussion loading on the outer hulls of unmanned underwater vehicles. Recent NASA testing on relevant Infinity fuel cell hardware has indicated acceptable results for further evaluation under upcoming Space Launch System activities.

PEM fuel cells, since they run cooler than other fuel cell technologies, are more capable of withstanding many start/stop cycles. This is the technology of choice for automotive applications, and more extreme applications like space vehicle, underwater vehicles, and drones.
