Bill Smith - President and CEO

Bill is the founder of Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen, Inc. starting the company in 2002.

He is also one of the co-founders of Proton Energy Systems, (now called Distributed Energy Systems Corp NASDAQ: DESC) where he was instrumental in creating the initial company concept and recruiting several members of the founding team. Bill served as Proton’s Vice President of Business Development from the company’s inception in 1996 until leaving to start Infinity in 2002. At Proton, he played a key role in growing Proton to become a publicly traded company. Funds raised in Proton's IPO allowed Proton to diversify by purchasing Northern Power Systems, and creating DESC. Today Proton (DESC) has revenue close to $50 million/yr, a market capitalization of over $300 million and is well on its way to profitability.

While at Proton, Bill was selected by the DOE to help develop the U.S. DOE Hydrogen Vision in 2001 and the DOE Hydrogen Roadmap in 2002. Has has also served as a Board Member of National Hydrogen Association.

From 1986 to 1996, Bill led various business development activities for advanced PEM products at the Hamilton Sundstrand Division of United Technologies Corporation. These included PEM products for commercial, military and NASA applications such as oxygen generators, hydrogen generators and regenerative fuel cells.

He holds numerous patents in the field of PEM technology and actively publishes in the field. Mr. Smith received his undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Connecticut, and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts.
